Purpose of the Position

The Security Risk Controller is responsible for coordinating and monitoring all on-site security operations while ensuring compliance with client requirements, legal standards, and company policies.

The role focuses on identifying potential security risks before they become incidents, ensuring security systems remain fully operational, supervising security officers, maintaining accurate documentation, and responding effectively to emergencies.

This position requires an individual who is proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of making sound decisions under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

Security Risk Management

The successful candidate will:

• Conduct comprehensive security inspections across the site.
• Identify security weaknesses and recommend corrective action.
• Perform weekly security risk assessments.
• Monitor vulnerable areas and implement preventative measures.
• Ensure all company and client assets remain protected.
• Monitor access control procedures and restricted areas.
• Report security risks immediately to management.

Protection of Company Assets

Responsibilities include protecting important facilities such as:

• Server rooms
• Generator rooms
• Fire sprinkler pump rooms
• Electrical control rooms
• Warehouse facilities
• High-value storage areas
• Client operational equipment

The Security Risk Controller must ensure these areas remain secure at all times.

Incident Management

The successful candidate will:

• Investigate security incidents.
• Compile professional incident reports.
• Record all occurrences accurately.
• Gather evidence where necessary.
• Recommend corrective actions.
• Assist management with incident investigations.
• Ensure reports are submitted within company deadlines.

Security Systems Monitoring

Monitor and inspect various electronic security systems including:

• Fire Detection Systems
• Intrusion Alarm Systems
• CCTV Surveillance
• Electric Perimeter Fencing
• Access Control Systems
• Emergency Evacuation Systems
• Generator Monitoring Systems
• Fire Sprinkler Systems

Any faults or irregularities must be reported immediately to minimise operational risks.

Alarm Response

The Security Risk Controller will:

• Respond immediately to all alarm activations.
• Assess emergency situations.
• Coordinate emergency responses.
• Ensure correct emergency procedures are followed.
• Maintain communication with emergency services when required.
• Record all alarm activations for reporting purposes.

Health and Safety Responsibilities

The successful applicant will help maintain a safe working environment by:

• Ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHASA).
• Monitoring workplace safety standards.
• Reporting unsafe working conditions.
• Participating in emergency preparedness activities.
• Supporting fire drills and evacuation exercises.

Security Team Supervision

The Security Risk Controller will oversee daily activities of on-site security personnel by:

• Ensuring full staff attendance.

• Coaching and mentoring security officers.
• Providing site-specific training.
• Monitoring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Security Testing

The successful candidate will regularly test critical security equipment including:

• Fire alarm break-glass units.
• Emergency evacuation systems.
• Intrusion alarms.
• Fire sprinkler systems.
• Generator systems.
• Emergency communication systems.

Testing records must be maintained in accordance with company procedures.

Administrative Responsibilities

Daily administration includes:

• Completing operational reports.
• Maintaining occurrence books.
• Updating security registers.
• Filing compliance documentation.
• Recording inspections.
• Updating incident logs.
• Maintaining training records.
• Preparing weekly and monthly reports.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

• Grade 12 (Matric) or an equivalent qualification.
• Valid PSIRA Grade A Registration.
• Health and Safety Certificate.
• Computer Literacy.
• Valid South African Driver’s Licence.
• Previous experience in Security Risk Control.
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts.
• Good written and verbal English communication skills.
