About the National Heritage Council (NHC)
The National Heritage Council (NHC) of South Africa, established through the National Heritage Council Act, 1999, is responsible for the preservation, protection, and promotion of South Africa’s heritage for sustainable development.
We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Human Resources Officer to join our Corporate Services team at our Menlyn, Pretoria office.
Job Purpose
The Human Resources Officer provides operational and administrative support across the full HR function to ensure the effective implementation of HR policies, procedures, and programmes. The successful candidate will support the HR Manager in delivering HR services related to recruitment, employee relations, performance management, learning and development, compliance, and HR reporting.
Key Responsibilities
HR Administration and Operations
- Maintain employee records, contracts, and HR documentation.
- Ensure data accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with HR standards.
Recruitment and Onboarding
- Coordinate recruitment activities and interview schedules.
- Prepare employment offers and appointment documentation.
- Facilitate onboarding and induction processes for new employees.
Employee Relations
- Provide administrative support for disciplinary processes, grievances, and employee queries.
- Assist in maintaining positive employee relations practices.
Performance Management
- Support the implementation and monitoring of performance management processes.
- Maintain performance-related records and documentation.
Learning and Development
- Coordinate employee training and development programmes.
- Maintain training records and assist with skills development initiatives.
Employment Equity and Reporting
- Assist with Employment Equity reporting and compliance requirements.
- Collect and analyse workforce data for reporting purposes.
HR Compliance and Governance
- Ensure compliance with HR policies, labour legislation, and organisational procedures.
- Support HR audits and governance initiatives.
HR Reporting and Data Management
- Compile HR reports and maintain HR metrics.
- Ensure accurate HR information management and record keeping.
Additional Responsibilities
- Adhere to the Promotion of Access to Information Act and all relevant legislation.
- Maintain high levels of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Promote a positive image of the National Heritage Council.
Continuous Improvement
- Participate in personal and professional development initiatives.
- Stay updated on HR trends, legislation, and industry developments.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and support departmental objectives.
- Maintain high-quality work standards and effective communication.
- Ensure efficient utilisation of organisational resources.
- Comply with all NHC policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 6/7) in Human Resource Management, Industrial Psychology, Labour Relations, or a related field.
- Registration as an HR Professional with a recognised professional body.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an HR Administration and/or HR Generalist role.
Other Requirements
- Valid South African Driver’s Licence.
